Five different hypertensive disorders can occur during pregnancy (HDP), and all are associated with an increased long-term risk of cardiovascular disease: chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, superimposed preeclampsia, preeclampsia/eclampsia, and unspecified hypertension. To understand the risk with each subtype, researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study using South Korean National Health Insurance Service data to determine the risk of cardiovascular death, heart failure, myocardial infarction, stroke, and atrial fibrillation for women who gave birth from 2010 to 2018.
