Acetaminophen toxicity is the leading cause of acute liver failure (ALF) in the U.S., with nearly half of these cases resulting from unintentional overdoses. Although N-acetylcysteine is an effective treatment for acetaminophen-induced ALF, it must be given in a timely manner to maximize its efficacy.
