Multiple studies have demonstrated a small but increased risk for gastric cancer in patients with pernicious anemia. However, these studies have varied in methods and risk estimates and have not provided sufficient evidence to determine recommendations for screening and surveillance.
To further investigate the risk for gastric cancer in patients with pernicious anemia, investigators conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. Using broad search criteria, they identified 27 papers that met the inclusion criteria.
