Symmetric, painless flesh-colored nodules on the medial aspects of an infant's heels have been described in the literature as "congenital piezogenic-like pedal papules," "benign congenital adipose plantar nodules," and "precalcaneal congenital fibrolipomatous hamartomas." They are considered uncommon.
Investigators in Toronto examined 452 newborns and infants for this condition over a 1-year period: 263 newborns were examined in two hospitals during the first 2 days of life, and 189 infants were examined during well-child examinations at age 1 to 12 months. Most infants were seen by age 6 months. Diagnosis was established by clinical examination.
