The authors of this report sought to characterize lichenoid photodermatitis, a photoallergic reaction with a distinct histology. Photodermatitis is a general term for skin rashes caused, at least in part, by exposure of skin to sunlight. Lichenoid means the histology resembles that of lichen planus: A superficial and deep perivascular infiltrate accompanies a bandlike inflammatory infiltrate of lymphocytes, which allegedly attack the epidermal basal cells, causing vacuoles and lichenoid dermatitis.
