The advent of the triptans has offered relief to migraine sufferers, but not all patients receive enough relief from these drugs, and most drugs used for prophylaxis have side effects that limit their usefulness. Because a case series had suggested that the angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor lisinopril might be of value in preventing migraines, Norwegian investigators performed this randomized crossover study.
A total of 47 adult patients with 2 to 6 migraine episodes per month received either lisinopril or placebo for 12 weeks, followed by a washout period and, then, 12 weeks of the opposite treatment.
