The package insert for botulinum toxin type A (Botox) states that it should be used within 4 hours of reconstitution. Results from several studies have suggested that the period of efficacy is longer. In this multicenter, double-blind study from Brazil, investigators evaluated the efficacy of Botox used as much as 6 weeks after reconstitution with preservative-free saline and refrigerated at 4ºC. A batch of Botox was reconstituted every 7 days over a 6-week period (7 batches total) and stored according to manufacturer's instructions. On the day after the last reconstitution, all of the reconstituted Botox was injected into the glabellar furrows of 85 patients at 4 dermatology practices.
