Macromastia or mammary hypertrophy can be associated with breast, neck, and shoulder pain, although the greatest negative effect for teens is often psychological. Mayo Clinic investigators reported 16-year outcomes for 99 women who underwent bilateral reduction mammoplasty at a mean age of 19 years (23 women underwent surgery at mean age of 17 years).
