To evaluate long-term cardiovascular outcomes after COVID-19 mRNA vaccine–associated myocarditis, researchers compared outcomes after hospitalization for myocarditis of different etiologies in a population-based cohort study. Using nationwide health data in France, they identified 4635 patients aged 12 to 49 years who were hospitalized for myocarditis related to COVID-19 mRNA vaccine (occurring within 7 days of vaccination; 12%), myocarditis related to COVID-19 infection (occurring within 30 days of SARS-CoV-2 infection; 6%), or myocarditis of conventional etiologies (82%). Study outcomes at 18 months were hospital readmission for myopericarditis, other cardiovascular events, all-cause mortality, and a composite of these events.
