Low-dose aspirin (≤325 mg/day) is widely used for secondary prophylaxis in patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, aspirin use also carries a dose-related risk for peptic ulcer bleeding. In patients who develop such bleeding, discontinuation of aspirin is recommended, but this carries a potential risk for thrombotic events in patients with vascular disease.
