Several studies have shown that topical treatments combining a corticosteroid with an antifungal are more effective than antifungals alone in reducing the signs and symptoms of inflammation from fungal infections. Naftifine, an allylamine antifungal effective against both dermatophytes and yeast infections, has been shown to also have antiinflammatory activity. To determine whether the antiinflammatory properties of naftifine are as potent as those of combined treatment with 1% clotrimazole and 1% hydrocortisone, these investigators compared naftifine with the combination regimen in the treatment of cutaneous fungal infections.
