The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has voted to ease its recommendation on pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in seniors, news outlets report. Previously, it recommended PCV13 for everyone aged 65 and older. On Wednesday, the group voted to recommend shared decision-making between patients and clinicians on whether to give the vaccine.
In other vaccine news, ACIP voted to recommend catch-up human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for both men and women up to age 26; the current age cutoff for average-risk men is 21. Additionally, the committee recommended that adults aged 27 to 45 who haven't received the vaccine series discuss with their clinician whether vaccination is appropriate.
ACIP's recommendations are not official until they are accepted by the CDC.
