This week, AstraZeneca reported final results from the U.S trial of its COVID-19 adenovirus vaccine, putting overall efficacy against symptomatic disease at 76%. The vaccine showed 100% efficacy against severe disease and hospitalization.
In other vaccine news, three reports demonstrated high effectiveness of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in healthcare settings. Meanwhile, a survey among U.S. healthcare workers showed that nearly one-third were hesitant to get vaccinated.
Elsewhere, there was much talk of the CDC changing its recommendations on physical distancing in schools. The agency now says that students should maintain at least 3 feet of distance from each other — rather than 6 feet — in most classroom settings where masks are worn universally.
