Phenomenology and familiality patterns shared by patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder with psychotic features suggest that these disorders might meaningfully overlap. Investigators associated with the Bipolar and Schizophrenia Network on Intermediate Phenotypes (B-SNIP) consortium have now published two reports.
The first study used diffusion tensor imaging to examine whole-brain white-matter integrity in 109 probands with schizophrenia, 63 probands with psychotic bipolar disorder, and their 159 first-degree relatives; and 104 healthy controls.
