Propranolol is widely used off-label for treatment of infantile hemangiomas (IHs), and few cases of propranolol-resistant IH have been reported in the literature. Researchers in France examined characteristics of patients with resistance in a multicenter, retrospective chart review of 1130 patients diagnosed with IH by pediatric dermatologists and treated with propranolol at pediatric dermatology clinical research group clinics. Propranolol resistance was defined by continued IH growth during the proliferative phase or no shrinkage during the postproliferative stage after >4 weeks of oral propranolol at >2 mg/kg/day. Congenital hemangiomas were excluded. No patient had previously received treatment for IH.
