During the development of DSM-5, it was proposed that categorical personality disorders be replaced by a dimensional model of personality traits, conceptualized as an extension of the “five-factor model” of normal personality. Ultimately, the proposed model was placed in section 3 (“Emerging Measures and Models”) for further study. These researchers examined the relationship between the proposed DSM-5 model and three separate five-factor models of general personality.
