Functional Outcomes with Standard and Biological Therapies in Early RA

Despite better clinical and radiologic outcomes with infliximab-methotrexate combination, standard triple therapy has equivalent positive effects on ability to work.

Debate continues concerning the efficacy of conventional triple nonbiologic therapy versus biologic therapy plus methotrexate in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In some studies, the clinical response has been equivalent, despite slightly worse radiologic outcomes with triple therapy. These researchers retrospectively examined incidence of loss of workdays in participants of working age from a Swedish manufacturer-supported, pharmacotherapy study, conducted from October 2002 through December 2005.
