Debate continues concerning the efficacy of conventional triple nonbiologic therapy versus biologic therapy plus methotrexate in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In some studies, the clinical response has been equivalent, despite slightly worse radiologic outcomes with triple therapy. These researchers retrospectively examined incidence of loss of workdays in participants of working age from a Swedish manufacturer-supported, pharmacotherapy study, conducted from October 2002 through December 2005.
In that study, patients with early RA were treated initially with methotrexate. Those who did not achieve low disease activity were randomized to infliximab (3 mg/kg) plus methotrexate or to triple therapy (methotrexate, hydroxychloro…
