Granulomatous mycosis fungoides (GMF) accounts for 1.6% to 1.8% of all cutaneous lymphomas and 6.3% of all MF. Some researchers have proposed that granulomas demonstrate enhanced antitumor reactions associated with better prognosis, but others link GMF to worse prognosis. To better characterize this condition, these authors compared 27 GMF patients (median age, 56) with 54 matched controls with classic MF (cMF).
The clinical presentation of GMF largely resembled cMF: More than half of patients presented with patches, papules, or plaques; 37% had tumors; and 11% had erythroderma.
