The recently suspended Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz claims that a Helicobacter pylori infection led him to use performance-enhancing drugs. Even though infectious diseases doctors “are woefully uneducated about all things helicobacter,” says Dr. Paul Sax in his HIV and ID Observations blog, they do know that growth hormone and testosterone are not mentioned in the treatment guidelines.
