Limited evidence suggests a possible association between sleep disturbance and inflammatory bowel disease activity. To further investigate this issue, researchers analyzed prospectively collected data on disease activity at 6 months in 3173 patients with and without sleep disturbance.
Data were from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America Partners cohort study. Sleep disturbance was assessed using a well-tested survey questionnaire. Crohn disease activity was assessed with the Short Crohn's Disease Activity Index and ulcerative colitis activity with the Simple Clinical Colitis Activity Index.
