Young women who receive solid organ transplants usually return to fertility — but to allow for stabilization of allograft function and to lower the risk for rejection, they should wait at least 12 to 24 months after transplantation before attempting to become pregnant. However, more than 90% of pregnancies occurring in such women are reported to be unplanned. To evaluate the fertility counseling provided to transplant recipients, investigators surveyed 183 women (age range, 19–49 years) who had ever received a solid organ transplant at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
