FDA Approves Conjugated Estrogen plus Bazedoxifene for Symptomatic Postmenopausal Women

On October 3, 2013, the FDA approved 0.45-mg conjugated estrogens/20-mg bazedoxifene tablets (Duavee) for treatment of moderate-to-severe menopausal vasomotor symptoms and prevention of menopausal osteoporosis in women with an intact uterus. This combined formulation of estrogen plus selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) is an alternative to traditional estrogen-progestin hormone therapy (NEJM JW Womens Health Jan 7 2010).
