Psoriasis is associated with risks for developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) — possibly by contributing to chronic inflammation. Spotty evidence (e.g., case reports) also links psoriasis and kidney disease. In this retrospective, population-based, cohort study, investigators determined risk for developing chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with psoriasis and without kidney disease at baseline.
In one analysis, in which characterization of psoriasis severity was based on treatment, 144,000 patients (137,000 with mild disease and 7400 with severe disease) were matched with 690,000 unaffected controls.
