Prospectively collected outcome data for severely obese adolescents undergoing bariatric surgery are lacking. The multicenter Teen-LABS (Teen-Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery) Study prospectively followed 242 severely obese (mean body-mass index, 50.5 kg/m2) adolescents (mean age, 17 years; 76% female, 72% white) undergoing bariatric surgery in 2007–2011. All procedures were performed by surgeons specifically trained for study data collection, but each institution followed its own surgical guidelines and practice pathways.
