HIV and ID Observations blog, Dr. Paul Sax laments the upcoming discontinuation of Janssen Diagnostics' vircoTYPE HIV-1 service for HIV resistance interpretation.
Janssen Diagnostics has informed its customers that the company is discontinuing its vircoTYPE HIV-1 service for HIV resistance interpretation. In HIV and ID Observations, Dr. Paul Sax notes that in some ways, it's sad to see this service go. He is not surprised, however: There are fewer new patients who have multiple mutations, especially in the protease inhibitor–drug class, who will need the “black-box firepower” of a vircoTYPE, and most existing patients with this sort of resistance are virologically suppressed and hence don't need resistance testing anymore.
