Acute nonvariceal gastrointestinal bleeding (NVGIB) during hospitalization for another condition (in-hospital bleeding; IHB) seems to result in poorer patient outcomes than when bleeding begins in an outpatient setting (outpatient bleeding; OPB). However, few studies have assessed and compared predictors of poor outcomes in these two groups.
In the current database study, investigators evaluated the impact of demographic, treatment, and clinical factors on risks for 30-day mortality and rebleeding in 338 inpatients and 1979 patients presenting with new-onset NVGIB to one of 23 Italian hospitals.
