Except for combination therapy with alpha interferon plus bevacizumab, the standard in oncology has been sequential therapy with agents that inhibit the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) or target the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTor). Early attempts to combine both classes of agents have met with toxicity issues.
