Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) provide primary care to many low-income women. Nationally, 28% of people served by FQHCs are women of childbearing age. Now, four reports focus on aspects of providing long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) at FQHCs.
A 2011 survey of 423 FQHCs showed that, among the largest sites (which each serve ≥20,000 patients annually), 29% received Title X funding. Half of responding FQHCs reported providing intrauterine devices (IUDs), implants, or both in addition to oral contraceptives. Only 36% reported that all of these options were available on-site.
