Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) is associated with the CDH1 genetic mutation about 30% of the time. In these patients, lifetime risk for cancer is 80%, and prophylactic gastrectomy is recommended. Although some patients choose endoscopic surveillance rather than or before surgery, its effectiveness in this setting remains unclear.
To determine outcomes of endoscopic surveillance in patients with HDGC, investigators prospectively followed 29 patients diagnosed in the U.K. during a 6-year period.
