Ongoing inflammation could help to explain the increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk seen among HIV-infected patients despite suppressive antiretroviral therapy (ART). The SATURN Study was designed to evaluate the effects of rosuvastatin on cardiovascular risk in patients taking ART (NEJM JW AIDS Clin Care Jan 7 2014). Eligibility criteria included stable ART (≥12 weeks), a fasting LDL cholesterol level ≤130 mg/dL, and an elevated marker of immune activation.
