In a new study, researchers evaluated a U.S. insurance claims database and a U.K. general practice database to document trends in testosterone testing and prescribing in these two countries during the past decade. Findings include the following:
Between 2000 and 2010, initial testosterone lab testing in untreated men (age range, 40–64) increased from 13 to 46 per 10,000 person-years in the U.K. and from 40 to 170 per 10,000 person-years in the U.S.
During a similar interval, initiation of testosterone therapy increased from 3 to 4 per 10,000 person-years in the U.K. and from 20 to 75 per 10,000 person-years in the U.S.
