Miniaturization of hysteroscopes and associated instruments makes in-office endometrial polypectomy possible, but which surgical method is best? In a manufacturer-supported study conducted by three surgeons at two office sites in the U.K., hysteroscopic morcellation (which involves a disposable mechanical cutting device that simultaneously cuts and aspirates polyp tissue) was compared with bipolar electrosurgical resection (in which resection is followed by removal of polyp tissue from the uterine cavity). A total of 121 women were randomized to in-office polyp removal by either method without general anesthesia or conscious sedation.
