Surgical resection is the curative treatment for patients with gastric cancer, and adjuvant therapy improves survival in T3 or node-positive disease. Open surgical resection with a D2 lymphadenectomy has emerged as the global surgical standard in gastric cancer. But is laparoscopic resection as effective?
To find out, Korean investigators conducted a retrospective review of more than 1200 patients who underwent either a conventional open gastric resection or a laparoscopic resection performed by any one of 10 surgeons during a period of 8 years.
