Excess risk for gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) can follow any molar pregnancy, but especially in patients who are older at pregnancy and have histories of molar recurrence. GTN can occur even after circulating human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels are no longer detectable, and clinicians in Senegal sought to determine the magnitude of this risk in a retrospective review of national data from 2006 through 2012. Levels of hCG were measured with a two-site monoclonal antibody immunoradiometric assay, with levels <5 IU/mL considered undetectable.
