Endoscopists are aware that treatment of bleeding colonic diverticula with endoscopic hemostasis clips, electrocautery, or rubber band ligation can effectively control diverticular bleeding. The problem is that the bleeding diverticulum is often not located in 75% or more of patients.
In the current study, investigators evaluated whether use of a “hood method” could improve detection of bleeding diverticula. First, colonoscopy was performed using the Olympus disposable distal attachment on the end of the scope. This is a soft, short cap that can be used to inspect each diverticulum.
