Reactivation of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a common complication of immunosuppressive therapy following allogeneic stem-cell transplantation (SCT). To test the efficacy and safety of letermovir in preventing CMV viremia, investigators conducted a multicenter, placebo-controlled, double-blind, phase II trial involving 131 CMV-seropositive patients undergoing matched-related or matched-unrelated allogeneic SCT. Treatment was initiated on day 1 after SCT and administered daily for 12 weeks. Quantitative CMV viral load was assessed at baseline and then weekly.
