Optimal treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) depends on rapid risk stratification for aggressive or conservative therapy. This process often involves early endoscopy to distinguish high-risk patients, who should receive aggressive endoscopic and supportive care, from those who can be treated conservatively. Based on the suggestion that endoscopy and other services necessary for optimal care might be more difficult to provide on weekends, investigators assessed whether clinical outcomes vary between patients admitted on weekends versus weekdays.
