Treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) has improved during the past decade with more active chemotherapy regimens and agents targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFr) pathways. However, the benefits of the EGFr-targeted agents panitumumab and cetuximab are limited to patients with wild-type KRAS status, and recent data have indicated that any RAS mutation results in resistance to EGFr agents.
