According to the clinical classification of myocardial infarction (MI) adopted in 2007, type 1 MI occurs with coronary thrombosis, whereas type 2 MI results from myocardial ischemia due to increased oxygen demand or decreased oxygen supply. To study the prognostic implications of these classifications, investigators analyzed prospective data from a single center in Denmark involving 488 patients with cardiac troponin I measures who received a diagnosis of MI (type 1, 360; type 2, 119; type 4 or 5, 9).
