The Clinical Outcomes Research Initiative (CORI) collects data on colonoscopies from 84 U.S. sites. Researchers analyzed CORI data to estimate the prevalence of large polyps (>9 mm) collected during screening colonoscopies in 323,375 average-risk adults from 2000 to 2011.
The prevalence of large polyps:
increased with age in men and women.
was higher in men in every age group independent of race.
was higher in blacks versus whites for ages 50 to 64 years (for men, ages 50–69).
was lower in Hispanics versus whites at all ages.
