In a short period, preferred therapy for hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection has changed from peginterferon plus ribavirin, to peginterferon and ribavirin plus direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), to DAAs without interferon (IFN) that are slated for FDA approval by early 2015. With such rapid changes, clinicians are asking whether patients should undergo treatment with IFN-based DAAs now or wait for IFN-free regimens.
