Both rosacea and lupus erythematosus (LE) can present as facial erythema or inflammatory papules. Histologically, both show perifollicular and perivascular chronic inflammation. Although we know that in LE, CD8 T-cell lymphocytes are increased in number and CD4/CD25+ regulatory T-cells are decreased in density, we lack significant information on these markers in rosacea. These authors explore the role of immunohistochemical staining for differentiating these diseases.
