Although microarray analysis can provide expanded information over karyotyping, appropriate indications are not always clear. In two industry-supported studies, microarray was evaluated for genetic characterization of products of conception after pregnancy loss and for noninvasive prenatal screening in pregnancies at high or low risk for genetic abnormalities.
In the first study, microarray analysis was conducted in 2400 samples of spontaneously lost products of conception (mean gestational age, 7.7 weeks). Test results without maternal cell contamination were available for 78% of samples.
