In both the MADIT-RIT trial (NEJM JW Cardiol Nov 6 2012) and the ADVANCE III trial (NEJM JW Cardiol May 15 2013), increasing implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) detection time for ventricular arrhythmias reduced activation of ICD therapy and even reduced mortality. Now, researchers have analyzed the ADVANCE III population for potential differences in hospitalization, length of stay, and costs. The analysis was confined to the first year of follow-up.
