The successful emergence of biologic agents targeting tumor promoting pathways — including human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) — has increased the impetus for broader genomic profiling of esophagogastric cancer.
Investigators for the Cancer Genome Atlas Research Network now report results of genomic profiling of fresh-frozen tumor specimens from nearly 300 patients with previously untreated gastric cancer. Tumor samples were analyzed using six molecular platforms: somatic copy number analysis, whole-exome sequencing, array-based DNA methylation profiling, mRNA sequencing, microRNA sequencing, and reverse-phase protein array.
