Except for concussions witnessed during sporting events, diagnosis of most mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBIs) are dependent upon the injured individual's history of the event, leading clinicians to wonder whether the symptoms are due to an actual mTBI or are influenced by other factors, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and depression (NEJM JW Psychiatry Aug 4 2014).
