To compare outcomes with whole-body (head, cervical spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine) versus selective computed tomography (CT) scanning in adults with major blunt trauma (injury severity score >16), researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 11 studies involving 26,371 patients. Patients not undergoing whole-body CT received x-rays of the chest and pelvis and Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST) examination, followed by selective or no CT scanning.
