Sexual dysfunction studies in men usually focus on middle age or older. Swiss investigators conducted a prospective cohort study of premature ejaculation (PE) and erectile dysfunction (ED) in 3700 sexually active military recruits (age range, 18–25) to determine factors associated with emergence or persistence of these problems. Participants completed a baseline questionnaire and a second survey a mean of 15 months later.
At baseline, 11% of respondents reported PE and 30% reported ED within the past 6 months; overall, 35% reported experiencing at least one of these.
