In the U.S., black women are significantly less likely to breast-feed than nonblack women. To explore the role of hospital maternity care practices in this disparity, CDC researchers analyzed data from 2643 maternity care facilities regarding best practices in breast-feeding promotion.
Facilities located in zip codes with an above-average percentage of black residents were significantly less likely to adhere to 6 of 10 recommended maternity care practices that support breast-feeding, such as allowing babies to “room in” with their mothers.
