One would have liked to think that Ebola virus disease in two Dallas healthcare workers resulted from exposure to the patient during his first hospital visit — before the infection was diagnosed and infection precautions were instituted. That their exposure occurred after the diagnosis was established, the patient was isolated, and presumably all care providers were using infection-prevention measures reinforces the fact that providing safe care for this disease is a monumental challenge.
